S10 comics icons for Seasonal Spuffy (plus alts)

I really enjoyed all the entries to Round 18 of seasonal_spuffy. In spite of my time limitations, I even managed to make a modest contribution myself: a set of Buffy Season 10 (comics) icons. I'm reposting them here, with a few alternative versions added. Anyone who wants is free to use them.

Original artists: Steve Morris (6/7/18), Megan Levens (2/16), Rebekah Isaacs (all the rest).

I loved these when you posted them to seasonal_spuffy, and I'm *really* loving the alternatives!

- I prefer 17 to 9 because the warmer palette makes me think they have a rosy future together;

- I prefer 19 to 12 because without the supernova in the background I can focus more on the foreground Spuffy;

- I prefer 22 to 14 because the B&W treatment unites rather than divides Buffy and Spike, also love the soft edges.

I go back and forth between the following alternatives: I read 18 as emotionally darker and more dramatic than 6, and 20 as more hopeful than 4, and I'm completely torn between 15 and 21 (21 feels more abstract, because of the diagonal line, rendering it more geometric). But I love it that they're making me think and choose! Thank you so much for sharing! :)

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I really enjoy hearing other people's takes on something I've created. (Probably sounds familiar, no? :-)

So do I; 17 is basically them riding off into the sunset together. The reason I included the other one in the Seasonal Spuffy set is because it fit better with the overall colour scheme of that set.

I love them both, but I agree that 19 brings out the foreground images better.

It's a close call for me, but I have a slight preference for 22 as well; again, I selected the other one for Seasonal Spuffy because of the overall colour scheme.

Yes, that's exactly what I was going for with the heightened shadows in 18 and the more sunny look in 20. I do love the old-fashioned look of 4 though.

I personally prefer 21 over 15 because it looks more "effulgent". I wanted to create a kind of playing card effect in 21, with the diagonal line connecting the separate images of Buffy and Spike, like a split screen. And I wanted to make it look a bit like sunbeam.

Hmm, sunbeam. *Nods in agreement* Yeah, it is more "effulgent". I think the reason I go back and forth between 21 and 15 is that with the diagonal line, there's a division between Buffy and Spike, whereas in 15, they're united as one entity against a contrasting background. Design-wise, 21 is more clever, but it also feels more abstracted (characters into design elements). I think it really depends on your mood. That's why I go back and forth between the two.

That's why I prefer 21 myself. I agree with your reasoning on all of these icons actually Goopd eye! It's nifty when someone takes the time to analyze icons for meaning and not just "pooh pretty picture!"

Ok now that I've read issues 10.13 - 16 (I haven't read any of the others this season btw but don't worry about spoilers. I do want to read them now, anyway) may I snag #16?

Ignoring the stupidity of the spacefrak,(and no baby slayers, and young Giles) we could almost squint and imagine S10 following directly from S7. The Spuffiness is SO CUTE! I don't know why people are arguing over these issues and don't tell me, I'm in my happy place.

Of course you may! I put a lot of work into making Spike look presentable in that one, so it's nice it's being appreciated :-)

You're welcome and no, I didn't -- at least not until the winners were announced. Congrats on your win, I love that Anya icon. I suppose I should have guessed that one was yours, because it has the same delicate quality and lovely, lovely colouring as some of your previous ones (your recent Buffy and Riley icons, for example).

The only one that I was certain was yours was the Drusilla one, because of the crown of thorns effect you also used in one of your Buffy Ipseity icons. I thought it suited Dru very well too.

And I'm sorry your Oz and Xander icons didn't win; I thought the red/bloody texture you used on the Xander one was very dramatic and effective. And Oz just looked really good!

Thank you! I'm looking again at the faces in the icon and I'm assuming you erased a lot of lines (what is it with both Levins and Isaacs needing to add all these weird little contour lines to Buffy and Spike's noses? I get why the lines are there in theory but in practice...

Your icon confirms that when it comes to intimate and delicate moments, I much prefer Levin, at least in this series.

I just read 10.17 btw and I've GOT to stop reading any other part of fandom's interpretations, because the handwringing and naysaying from all quarters just takes away all the fun. I thought there was some really interesting character interaction in that episode - everybody got a moment in the spotlight.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for the feedback! I actually didn't have to do a lot to that icon, Emma was already lovely in that screen cap. It's gratifying to know that you think I'm getting better with color in my icons, but that's been a real challenge for me.

Thank you hon! I actually used it in a IWRY icon for the last round of slayerstillness - but it would have been a pretty cool effect in the Ipseity artwork, wouldn't it? I hadn't even thought of that, durn.

I do think the Anya and Dru were my favorites so I'm happy they won, but I liked all the icons I submitted this round. I thought the red on the Xander icon was pretty cool too; and it wasn't a "bloodspatter" texture (yes, I do have actual bloodspatter textures on hand); I think it was one of the textures from lookslikerain that just happened to resemble blood when I played around with it a bit.

The Oz one, I was thinking of Tibet and mediation and altered states when I made that, but also the fact that his mind is so much more complex than he shows on the surface. (That's the image from Earshot when he's musing on the fact that Buffy can read everyone's thoughts.)

I agree! It was about time those two finally got to bask in the afterglow.

Personally I still have my doubts about Levin -- I love her Buffy, but her Spike often leaves a lot to be desired. I'm still not very happy with how he looks in this icon, even though it's much better than the original (she said immodestly). Anyway, you are very welcome to it!

Thanks for the background on the Oz icon. I got the mandala/Tibetan vibe, which I thought was very fitting for Oz, but I hadn't made the connection with the workings of his mind. Thats a good one -- seeing the wheels turning!
