Awards and nominations, yay!
Aug. 7th, 2015 11:55 pmRecently I participated in my first icon challenge: Challenge 122 "Bright and Shiny" at
whedon_elite. I was amazed to win a third place with my Spuffy Storyteller icon (#4). Many thanks to everyone who voted for my icons! Here are all my challenge entries:
In the icons I used textures from
colorfilter and
burnedbreads.
In addition to being awarded third place, I also got the Banner Maker's Choice for my Spike soul icon (#3) by the lovely
red_satin_doll. Here are the beautiful banners she made for me:

RSD made some very thoughtful comments on #3, saying among other things, "I love the scratched texture that reflects Spike/William itching to "crawl out" of his own skin". This observation inspired me to make a variant of the icon, adding the image of Spike with his scratched chest in Lessons. You can see it below, together with another variant and also a few variants of the Dawn icon I submitted for the challenge:
But there's more! Some lovely person nominated my Dawn icon (#2) for the No Rest for the Wicked Awards (
wicked_awards):

And I got two other "Wicked" nominations: one for my most recent vidlet, Broad Daylight, and one for the story banner I made for
sparrow2000's story Searching for Jim. Many thanks to the nice people who nominated me!! I intend to do some nominating of my own soon.
And one last thing to be proud of: I made Giles smile by making a Giles+tea icon set for
summer_of_giles. It was my pleasure!

Date: 2015-08-08 03:36 am (UTC)And I'm thrilled you love the banners for WE because that's my goal when I make them: to create something that honors the winners and is something they truly enjoy receiving. Knowing that you do makes my day and then some.
This observation inspired me to make a variant of the icon,
I'm tickled that I could be an inspiration but I was just seeing what was already there, obviously! i LOVE it when artists go meta with icons and you know I adore layering in service of that. IT's amazing how much can be communicated with an icon. I do have one concrit about #5 and that is, the "ghost" image of Spike from Lessons is so faint to my eyes that I wouldn't have known what it was if you hadn't told me. But that could just be my eyes or even my monitor. (And lord do I know the challenge of doing layers and not having them "fight" for visual dominance.)
Really looking forward to what you have in store for future for us in every medium!

Date: 2015-08-09 11:48 am (UTC)By the way, I take back what I said before about being good with deadlines. I was so happy to have finished "Broad Daylight" just in time, but after having posted it, I kept seeing things that needed to be improved. (I made a final tweak today; see if you can spot the difference!)

Date: 2015-08-09 12:42 pm (UTC)There's this HLOD clip of Buffy coming at Spike with her stake, which I followed up with Spike's dream from OOMM that has Buffy kissing instead of staking him. But it bothered me that Buffy was coming from the opposite direction in the OOMM clip, so I flipped it so that it flows better from the HLOD clip. I'm sure nobody ever had any problems with the old version, but I couldn't look at it anymore without itching to improve it!
